Making a Difference in Conover, NC

“We can all make a difference in the lives of others in need, because it is the most simple of gestures that make the most significant difference.” Miya Yamanouchi

I asked Glenda what home care means to her and she responded, “It means life.”  She continued, “I was in a hole… You see, I was severely depressed and suicidal.  Genny was sent to me through Premier Home Health Care Services, and everything changed.  Genny brought me out of that hole, and through her commitment to me, I found happiness and laughter.”

Glenda Hendrick resides in Hickory, NC and is a recipient of home care services.  She is unable to complete the tasks of daily living without the assistance of another person and is dependent on her wheelchair for mobility.  Additionally, she suffers with multiple other physical handicaps and memory loss associated with dementia.

Glenda hailed Genny Nelson, a Premier Home Health Care Services CNA, as being her “life-saver.”  Genny has been Glenda’s caregiver for nearly one year.  Glenda regularly comments on her caregiver’s service, stating, “I can’t say enough good things about her.  She is always positive, she comes to her job happy and stays happy, I trust her, she is patient, and she really cares about me…That’s what made the difference.”  “She changed my life and changed me,” said Glenda.

Genny continually expresses her admiration for Glenda, who despite her physical and emotional challenges, continues to smile and laugh.  “She’s homebound which leaves many patients sad, but Glenda refuses to succumb to her ailments,” said Genny.  She went on to say, “I want Glenda to remain as independent as possible.  I help her achieve some autonomy by encouraging her to make her own decisions.”  Genny explained how she strives to keep her patient’s environment stimulating and interactive to aid with her memory loss progression.

The changes in Glenda have not gone unnoticed.  Her social worker wrote a letter to Premier Home Health Care Services to report, “Glenda is like a different person.  I owe a lot of that to Genny, as she is patient and always takes the time to listen to her.  She is so good with her and does a great job.”

Glenda and Genny’s story is just one of many that beautifully captures the power and heart of caregiving at Premier Home Health Care Services. It is the most simple of gestures that make the most significant difference. We can all make a difference in the lives of others in need.
